Magnetic Therapy to Lower Blood Pressure

Animal studies have showed that magnetic field has effects on the nervous, cardiovascular and endocrine systems. When placing magnetic patches on selected acupoints of body, it becomes a special therapy, which has been practiced for a long history in China. Modern TCM often applies magnetic therapy (with appropriate range of magnetic intensity) to ease pain, calm down, relieve muscle spasm, reduce inflammation and swelling, lower blood pressure and arrest diarrhea. In general, magnetic therapy will apply for three to four weeks as one course, then rests for five to ten days and starts for another course if necessary.

Magnetic therapy can work for stage 1 and stage 2 hypertension cases:

Major points: qu chi (Li 11), nei guan (Pc 6), bai hui (Gv 20), zu san li (St 36), san yin jiao (Sp 6);
Assistant points: feng chi (Gb 20), tai yang (Ex-Hn 5), tai chong (Lr 3), shen men (Ht 7).

Each time, select two to four points, apply magnetic patches with intensity between 0.04 teslae (600G)〜0.2 teslae (2000G) on them and stay for 20 to 30 minutes. For serious condition, it is better to begin with a lower intensity, less body points and shorter time, and then adjust them gradually in accordance with the response.

Magnetic therapy should be provided according to individual’s age, body constitution, disease type and clinical staging. During treatment, some individuals may appear symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, insomnia and aggravated pain. These are usually temporary and will disappear after rest for one to two days or adjusting the treatment plan. However, if the symptoms are persisted, then the treatment should be terminated.

Those who have a low white blood cell count, general weakness, and fever are NOT suitable for magnetic therapy.
