Both acupuncture and herbal decoctions can help resume the healthy qi movement and reverse the disorder casued by emotional influence. Sometimes advice on the emotional health maintenance is also given, but perhaps they are not as well established as the counselling therapy as in the western clinical psychology. The advice would be based on the disharmony pattern and the affected organ.

If individual has too much liver fire, he/she would be advised to relax that may relieve anger, which is a wood/liver emotion. Because of the complexity of the emotional mixup in human, there is a general emotional health advice as said in the literature Huang Di Nei Jing, "Always maintain contentment or traquillity in mind, simplicity or emptiness in desire. In this way, the real and healthy qi will follow and go along with you. If the healthy and calm spirit is well consolidated inside our body/mind without floating outside the body unhealthily, disease is difficult to come and attack the body."

It would be a great idea if the psychological counselling skills can also be integrated in routine Tradtional Chinese Medicine therapy.

Let us share with you some of the concept of emotons in Chinese medicine.

In fact, Traditional Chinese Medicine (tcm) also gives high emphasis on the emotional health. Emotions are considered as the internal cause of diseases.

Because of its holistic view, TCM believes that emotional problems are not isolated health problems in our mind. They are also associated with all other organs, meridians and the state of harmony in the whole body. Therefore treatment will be aimed on the resuming the balance of the whole body. Acupuncture is one of the treatment methods for resuming the disharmony of the meridian and organs in the body. Herbal decoctions are also used to treat the emotional problems.

For example, it is said in the literatue that anger (liver/wood emotion) will cause unhealthy rise of qi, excessive joy will cause certain slowness(unhurried speed) of qi, Excessive pensiveness will cause unhealthy "knotted" stagnation of qi, excessive grief will cause the "vanishing" of qi, fear will cause the unhealthy descending of qi, fright will cause disorder of qi movement in the body.
